CHARLOTTE WOMEN’S MARCH

Newsletter 2-19-2017

It has been two weeks since our first meeting and we are 450 strong and growing! We have been busy and are planning to attend new events.

Thank you to Beth Davis who has worked tirelessly to get our Facebook page (charlottewomensmarch) up and running and is now working on a blog for longer, more permanent postings. Kelsey Hermann gave us a lesson on Facebook, bringing me into the 21st century social media world. Thank you Kelsey.  Also, Kathryn Mahan developed our online registration system and is now on to setting up MailChimp for e-blasts to make my life easier as an administrator.

All of the information below is also listed on our Facebook page. Send me your notices and I’ll try to send out a weekly or bi-weekly newsletter with updates. And post your information on Facebook.

1)      LIKE us on Facebook at charlottewomensmarch and invite your friends to like us. Follow us to keep up with upcoming events. Facebook and the blog are our lifelines to our community, so rally support for them.

2)      Invite your friends to join our email chain at https://womwnsmarchclt.wufoo.com/forms/charlotte-womens-march/. You can also find the link on our Facebook page.

3)      Although at a very early stage, we are developing our blog that is like a free web page where we can post longer, more thoughtful articles by topic/ interest group and these will remain available permanently to our membership. More on this as it is developed further.

4)      Thank you to Rachel Hewitt for our new logo. Visit our Facebook page to see how we have adapted the national logo with Charlotte features.

5)      We are still looking for a venue for our next general meeting in late April or early May. Anyone who has an idea for a space that accommodates 300 people, please let me know. Our best options are probably large churches or a community center. Most require some fee, so there may be a slight charge at the door for our next meeting.

6)      Marsha Ford is organizing a group to attend the Citizens’ Lobby Day on gerrymandering in Raleigh on March 1, 2017. Contact Marsha to arrange a ride.

7)      Join a group of us at the Planned Parenthood annual fundraiser at the Neighborhood Theater on Saturday March 4, 2017, at 8:00 pm, and support an important cause. Mickie Hall, Jan Anderson, Ellen Creede, Carrie Davey and others are attending with and without spouses.

8)      Emily Stephenson-Green asks everyone to write letters to support Immigrant’s contributions to our nation. More information at https://remezcla.com/lists/culture/toimmigrantswithlove-hashtag-valentines-day/.

9)      Jannica Greife attended Tuesdays with Tillis protest at the Senator’s office. Since Tillis does not hold Town Hall meetings, this is the only way to show the senator that we disagree with his policies. Indivisible has arranged for groups to meet every Tuesday at Noon at the senator’s office at 9300 Harris corners Pkwy., Suite 170, Charlotte, 28269. JOIN US or call the senator at 704-509-9087.

10)   Jan Anderson protested the President at the Boeing Plant in Charleston, SC, on Friday, February 17, 2017. About 500 peaceful protesters marched.

11)   While in Charleston, Jan attended Congressman Mark Sanford’s Town Hall meeting in Mt. Pleasant, SC. An overflow crowd of 500 concerned citizens caused the meeting to be relocated outside where

12)   Heloise Merrill and Susan Montiquilla saw the organizers of the Women’s March on Washington speak at Wake Forest. What a remarkable experience!

13)   Marsha Ford attended a Lillian’s List meeting on Saturday February 18, 2017 to learn more about how to run for office. Go to https://lillianslist.org for more information.

All of this information is posted on our Facebook page in greater detail. Send your notices to charlottewomensmarch@gmail.com and keep us posted on what you have done. You can help rally the troops so that we don’t ever forget that this is NOT the new normal.
